10 must have in your New Year party – By Chef Shiv Shankar Ghosh

The most exciting time of the year, globally. It’s the holiday season after all. A season of festivities, season to celebrate the year gone by and the year up ahead. As Delhi prepares itself for the countdown to this year, the party animals are getting ready to make their yearend party memorable in all costs. Great music, amazing themes, crazy dances, and lots more yet the highlight of a party sticks towards the food, which can make or break a New Year party.

Aaugritaa Caterers today, gives you today the 10 must have food items in your New Year Party. These food items are selected on the basis of the popularity, the ease of serving and cost. Gathered from the experience we had over 5 years celebrations and overall serving more than 1000+ foodies in and around Delhi. We give you the food, the preparation and why we’ve ranked them by this sequence.

Number 10: Paneer Tikka

Yes, Vegetarians crave for it. A party without “Paneer Tikka” is impossible, it’s a simple recipe, cottage cheese marinated and grilled. The trick is to order “Malai Paneer” from your caterer and use less spices. Just a dressing of lemon and you’re good to go.

Number 9: Cream of tomato soup

What can we say about soups, highly unlikely for a layman but party animals dig soup. Often considered as the entrĂ©e of a fine dine, soups add that extra zing to your ready to eat food. Nothing beats a cup of hot and thick tomato soup in cold Delhi nights. We won’t reciprocate the recipe here but that is one thing you must have in your menu.

Number 8: Chicken or Vegetarian Burger

Yeah that’s so common; I can get burger any place today. But imagine that in your New Year Menu. Beer and Burger as they say in states and that’s why it is never out. Grill some live burger patties and see people waiting and craving for it. Economical, different, and a great hit Burger stays at number 8 in the list

Number 7: Chilly Chicken/Mushroom/Paneer

The second best cuisine a Delhite loves after north Indian is Chinese and that’s why each party we do there’s a request for Chinese starters and that too (mind you ) with an Indian twist. It has to be spicy and full of vinegar else you’re just killing the complete sense of it. After all we have to make it in India

Number 6: Seekh Kebabs (chicken or Mutton)

It has to be soft and it has to juicy, wrap it in ‘Rumaali roti’, eat it with ‘Butter Naan’ or just eat it like that Seekh Kebab’s are the most versatile Mughlai food in and around Delhi. From the time it is prepared to the moment it is served they hold the key for your New Year Party. Kebabs are like “Mike Hussey” always Mr. dependable.

Number 5: Gulaab Jamun

The second half of this list starts with one of my personal favorite. I have been eating them since I don’t know when and I have seen people getting crazy about them for generations. Like come on, no party is complete without hot and sweet “Gulaab Jamun”. Add it with “Ice Cream” (thanks to “Paan Singh Tomar”) and you will relish every bite. Gulaab Jamun indeed is highly recommended for your new year’s party menu.

Number 4: Amritsaari Fish

When things go south, eat fish. If chicken and mutton bore you then you’re the person who needs fish in your menu. It’s not heavy on your appetite and you can actually enjoy your drinks with it. It is less spicy and low in fat for all those diet conscious people. But mind you it comes with a price so be sure about it before you ask your caterer.

Number 3: Chicken Tandoor/Tikka

Few like mutton, others like fish but we all love chicken. 3rd in the list of must have New Year party menu is none other than “Tandoori” Be it chicken tikka, Malai Tikka, or good old tandoori chicken anything cooked with that smoky flavor relish each and every one. It’s a popular dish we serve in lot of our parties. The trick for you Is to eat it while it’s hot else they tend to go super dry in winters. Rest it’s a top item on your menu

Number 2: Galouti/Tuney Kebab

If you really looking for your party to be the uncommon event all through next year, you need to have one of these in your Menu, The preparation is delicate, the workers are few who skills in the art but the resonance of this one delicacy stays forever. Galouti or keema kebab is a global dish today and having them in your party would make it stand apart. It is definitely on the higher side when it comes to prices but when you have that “Nawabi” class, the prices don’t matter

Number 1: Prawn/Shrimp fried (cocktail)

If you don’t know the importance of shrimp, go see “forrest gump”. For everyone else who do love shrimps you’re giving your guests something which they didn’t expected. Your party would be suddenly be one of the most happening things in town the moment you serve them a “shrimp cocktail”. Our number 1 in the list because of the efforts taken to prepare and the accolades it gather. But be aware of the audience you’re catering too. Prawns and shrimps make your party go page 3. Hell, we have seen people taking selfies with it.

That’s complete the list of items you should have in your New Year party. Although no party is complete without the wonderful people we have catered too. So this year, if you have not decided the menu yet, go for one of the items from this list and you might find something to remember for all through the year. Here’s wishing all of you a Happy New Year 2015.
